Staff Attorneys, Tenant Rights Coalition (Job#70_2022) REPOSTED Bronx Legal Services is seeking passionate and dedicated staff attorneys to join our Tenant Rights Coalition (TRC). As the largest provider of free civil legal services in the Bronx, we are committed to fighting poverty and seeking justice for low-income New Yorkers. Organization Overview: Bronx Legal Services is part of Legal Services NYC's network of local programs throughout New York City. Our mission is to fight poverty and seek racial, social, and economic justice on behalf of low-income individuals and families. Our TRC team specifically focuses on anti-displacement advocacy in the Bronx, working to support communities facing housing needs due to rapid neighborhood changes and gentrification. Key Responsibilities: As a TRC staff attorney, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of low-income communities in the Bronx. Your responsibilities will include: - Representing clients in individual housing matters, including eviction defense proceedings - Handling multi-plaintiff affirmative cases to address issues such as repairs, overcharges, and harassment - Appearing in civil, supreme, and federal court, as well as administrative proceedings - Working closely with tenant organizers, associations, and community partners to identify and address housing needs - Conducting outreach and off-site intake with partners during weekdays, evenings, and weekends - Providing trainings for advocates, tenant associations, and community members - Collaborating with team members on advocacy efforts Qualifications: We are looking for candidates who possess the following qualifications: - A commitment to public service and a strong understanding of the legal needs and challenges faced by low-income individuals - Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with low-income and communities of color - Strong analytical, writing, and organizational skills - The ability to handle a diverse, fast-paced, and high-volume caseload - Experience working with community-based organizations and/or a willingness to partner with them - Enthusiasm for working in a team environment - Experience in housing, landlord/tenant, or related advocacy (preferred) - Fluency in Spanish or another commonly spoken language in the Bronx (strongly preferred) How to Apply: Salary for this position is determined by a collective bargaining agreement.
