Job Title: Employment Associate Attorney

Job Overview:
A prestigious law firm located in Hartford, CT, is currently seeking an experienced Employment Associate Attorney to join their dynamic Labor and Employment practice. This role will involve a wide range of tasks related to labor law, including research, litigation, policy drafting, and client communication. The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of experience in labor and employment or litigation law, a strong attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.

Duties:

  • Conduct thorough research on various labor and employment legal issues.
  • Draft and review employee handbooks, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepare position statements and responses to administrative charges from agencies such as the EEOC, NY State Division of Human Rights, and the CT Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities.
  • Collaborate with clients to gather information for position statements.
  • Draft motions for both federal and state courts.
  • Respond to discovery requests and assist in case preparation.
  • Develop deposition outlines, prepare exhibits, and assist in preparing witnesses for depositions.
  • Take on first and second chair responsibilities in depositions.
  • Assist partners in preparing for mediations, arbitrations, hearings, trials, and other legal proceedings.
  • Serve as second chair, and in some cases, first chair during mediations, arbitrations, hearings, and trials.
  • Meet the annual billable hour target of 1800 hours.

Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in labor and employment or litigation law.
  • Admission to the New York State Bar is required.
  • Admission to the Connecticut Bar is preferred, or the ability to waive in.
  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the Bar.
  • Excellent research and writing capabilities.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Quick to absorb, process, and understand new information.
  • A high level of performance, professionalism, and work ethic.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse personalities across various levels of the organization.
  • Military experience is welcome.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the New York State Bar is required.
  • Admission to the Connecticut Bar is preferred or the ability to waive in.
