The Principal IP Counsel - Freedom to Operate at Medtronic is a key role in the company's IP legal team. This position offers a competitive salary range of $158,400 to $237,600, depending on experience and qualifications. The role is responsible for developing and executing IP strategies for Freedom-to-Operate (FTO) and enforcement activities across the entire Medtronic portfolio. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in FTO and IP enforcement, and be licensed to practice in at least one state or the District of Columbia. The role also requires registration to practice before the . Patent and Trademark Office.

The Principal IP Counsel will work closely with internal stakeholders, such as R&D and marketing teams, to understand Medtronic's competition and emerging technologies. They will also conduct patent risk assessments and analyze potential infringement claims. This role is a strategic partner to the in-house attorneys and R&D teams, providing legal advice and support for FTO activities. The ideal candidate will have a strong collaboration and relationship-building skills, with the ability to communicate technical and legal information in a clear and concise manner.

This role is also responsible for managing outside counsel and monitoring changes in the competitive landscape for medical device and healthcare technology. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant scientific discipline, such as Biomedical Engineering or Computer Science. Litigation experience is also preferred. The Principal IP Counsel must also possess strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and make decisions in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
