Job Overview:

The Patent Engineer, Scientist, or Agent will be responsible for patent drafting, prosecution, and portfolio management, focusing on optics, acoustics, video and audio signal processing and codecs, virtual/augmented reality, and microscopy systems and imaging techniques. The ideal candidate will possess technical expertise, legal acumen, and exceptional communication skills.

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications in various technical fields, emphasizing optics, acoustics, video and audio signal processing and codecs, virtual/augmented reality, and microscopy systems and imaging techniques.
  • Manage patent portfolios, including conducting patent analysis/opinions of counsel and participating in IPRs.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, clients, and internal teams to develop and execute patent strategies.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and legal developments relevant to patent law.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2+ years of patent drafting and prosecution experience at a firm or in-house.
  • Experience with optics, acoustics, video and audio signal processing and codecs, virtual/augmented reality, microscopy systems, and imaging techniques is preferred.
  • Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Optics, Physics, or Biomedical (with an electrical or software focus).
  • Graduate-level experience or an advanced technical degree is a plus.
  • Admission to the USPTO is a plus.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new skills and best practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Capacity to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.

Education and Certifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Optics, Physics, or Biomedical (with an electrical or software focus).
  • Graduate-level experience or an advanced technical degree is a plus.
  • Admission to the USPTO is a plus.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in patent drafting and prosecution.
  • Familiarity with optics, acoustics, video and audio signal processing and codecs, virtual/augmented reality, microscopy systems and imaging techniques.
  • Experience with software and AI is advantageous.
  • Ability to manage time and deadlines effectively.
