Associate General Counsel - Job Description and Salary Information

The Associate General Counsel is a high-level legal position within a company that is responsible for providing legal advice and recommendations for initiatives and projects. Responsibilities

- Provide legal advice and recommendations for initiatives and projects developed in response to clients' overall objectives and needs
- Work on large-scale and/or high financial-level projects with broad department and/or organizational impact and moderate level of risk
- Act as a strategic partner and decision-maker with more senior leaders, and manage work independently
- Apply knowledge of one or more legal specialties with sound business acumen and knowledge of the business goals and objectives
- Determine methods and procedures on new assignments and may coordinate legal projects
- Contribute to overall results of an SBU or CEE unit and/or department
- Use professional legal concepts and principles to contribute to development of company's concepts and principles
- Possess deep technical knowledge or broader scope of knowledge
- Provide instructions to junior members of the department and concise, timely briefings to senior level business and legal management
- Work on complex problems in which analysis of situations and/or facts require an in-depth evaluation of various factors
- Serve as a resource for other attorneys and paralegals as well as business clients instructing and advising on technical and tactical issues
- Assess and mitigate risk
- Report to management any identified business exposure and associated risks as well as mitigation techniques being utilized

Requirements

- JD and current license to practice law
- Minimum of 9 years of specific industry and/or technical legal experience post licensure
- Strong business acumen and knowledge of the business goals and objectives
- Ability to manage work independently and act as a strategic partner and decision-maker with more senior leaders
- Deep technical knowledge or broader scope of knowledge in one or more legal specialties
- Strong communication skills and ability to provide concise, timely briefings to senior level business and legal management
- Ability to work on complex problems and provide in-depth evaluation of various factors
- Experience managing outside counsel is strongly preferred
- Experience working in the commercial, individual market
- Familiarity with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the Consolidated Appropriations Act (CAA)
- Experience working with Operations
- Experience managing relationships with state and federal regulatory agencies
- Familiarity with provider contracting and network adequacy
- Familiarity working with Executive Leadership and Government Relations

Location and Work Schedule

The Associate General Counsel position may require the candidate to work a hybrid model, with a mix of remote and in-office work. The ideal candidate will live within 50 miles of the company's Elevance Health PulsePoint locations. Candidates must reside within 50 miles or 1-hour commute each way of a relevant Elevance Health location.
