NJOPD is currently seeking highly motivated and dedicated college and graduate students to join our team as Internship Paralegal Students. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain real-world experience working with attorneys, investigators, and staff in providing the best possible legal representation to our clients. As an Internship Paralegal Student, you will have the opportunity to assist with various tasks such as investigations, client communication, research and writing, trial preparation and advocacy, and participate in excellent training and mentorship opportunities. This internship is available year-round and statewide.

Key Responsibilities:

- Assist with investigations, including locating and interviewing witnesses
- Serve subpoenas and gather information and documents
- Conduct field investigations, such as photographing crime scenes and examining evidence
- Draft reports and attend court proceedings and training programs
- Work closely with attorneys, investigators, and staff to provide the best possible legal representation to clients

Qualifications:

- Currently enrolled college junior or senior, or graduate student
- Interest in the legal field and commitment to social justice
- Strong research, writing, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Availability to work between 10-20 hours per week

To Apply:

1. Submit a cover letter explaining why you are interested in an internship with NJOPD, your preferred practice areas, geographic preferences or limitations, and availability.
2. Applications are considered on a rolling basis and must be received between June 15th and July 31st (Fall), October 15th and November 30th (Spring), or December 15th and April 15th (Summer).
3. All applicants must be interviewed by a regional office and/or Internship Coordinator, complete confidentiality and ethics paperwork, and be screened and approved prior to being offered an internship with NJOPD.

Note: This is an unpaid, volunteer internship. However, the experience gained and training received will be invaluable for your future career in the legal field.
