Sanctuary for Families, New York's leading service provider and advocate for survivors of domestic violence, sex trafficking, and gender violence, is seeking a Staff Attorney to join their team at the Brooklyn Family Justice Center. Position Overview:
- Provide legal representation to survivors of domestic and gender-based violence in family law matters in Brooklyn
- Areas of focus include family offense, custody/visitation, child/spousal support, and divorce
- Work out of the NYC Family Justice Center in Brooklyn
- Report to Senior Program Director and Associate Program Director, Family Law Project at the Brooklyn Family Justice Center

Responsibilities:
- Direct representation and advocacy for clients in family law litigation
- Maintain a caseload of approximately 20-30 active clients per month and 40-60 active cases
- Conduct outreach to underserved communities
- Counsel law students, pro bono attorneys, social service providers, healthcare professionals, and community-based organizations on domestic violence and legal needs of victims
- Represent Sanctuary for Families on task forces and advocacy committees
- Co-counsel with pro bono attorneys on all aspects of litigation in family law matters
- Collaborate with volunteers, interns, and pro bono attorneys
- Facilitate clients' access to resources and administer financial assistance and donations
- Attend and participate in conferences and meetings to stay informed on developments in pro bono, domestic violence, and legal remedies for victims
- Perform other duties as directed by supervisor

Requirements:
- . degree and admission to the New York State Bar
- Up to 4 years of relevant legal experience
- Fluency in a community language other than English is a plus
- Strong lawyering, advocacy, and leadership skills
- Experience working in the domestic violence field is a plus
- Motivated to provide zealous, knowledgeable, culturally competent, and empathic legal advocacy to survivors
- Ability to work well with diverse communities and backgrounds

Salary Description:
- Budgeted salary of $78,000 - $81,167
- Salaried - Exempt
- Pursuant to STEP wage scale in accordance with collective bargaining agreement
