Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking a lateral Associate Attorney specializing in Student Services and Special Education to assist public schools and community colleges in providing legal support related to the individualized education program (IEP) process. The role will involve presenting workshops, reviewing and revising policies, responding to state and federal compliance complaints, and addressing administrative due process hearings outside of traditional litigation contexts. The ideal candidate will be passionate about advocating for students' rights and navigating complex education law issues.

Location:

  • Sacramento, California

Duties:

  • Assist clients in navigating the IEP process for students with disabilities.
  • Present workshops and training sessions on special education laws and best practices.
  • Review and revise policies and procedures related to student services and special education.
  • Respond to state and federal compliance complaints and manage administrative due process hearings.
  • Provide legal counsel on non-adversarial education law matters, ensuring clients comply with state and federal regulations.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with K-12 schools and community colleges.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of legal practice experience.
  • Active member of the State Bar of California.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of special education laws and the IEP process.
  • Ability to communicate complex legal issues in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Experience working with public schools or educational institutions preferred.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the State Bar of California.

Skills:

  • Strong research and writing capabilities.
  • Ability to handle complex compliance and education law matters.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with clients.
