Hawkins Delafield & Wood LLP is seeking an associate to join the firm’s tax department in its New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Newark, Ann Arbor, Portland (Oregon), or Washington, . offices. The firm has a broad-based national public finance practice, including some of the most sophisticated and high-profile financings for state and local governmental entities and nonprofits.

## Job Description
The work is predominantly transactional in nature and the members of the tax department work closely with the securities and finance lawyers in the firm, as well as investment bankers, financial advisors and government officials nationwide.

The firm offers a collegial work environment, the opportunity to interact with clients directly, exposure to complex transactions which serve to benefit the communities served, and the potential to become a national specialist in selected fields.

This is an entry-level to mid-level (up to 5 years’ experience) position. Candidates must be admitted to practice in the state in which their designated office is located; an is required and experience in public finance or other transactional tax experience would be beneficial.

## Compensation
The anticipated base compensation range for this full-time role is $175,000 to $205,000 per year. Actual compensation will depend upon several factors, including, but not limited to, relevant experience, job-related skills, and qualifications.

Our Tax Associates will be responsible for providing tax advice and guidance to clients, as well as working with other members of the tax department on complex transactions. This is an entry-level to mid-level (up to 5 years’ experience) position. - Providing tax advice and guidance to clients
- Working with other members of the tax department on complex transactions
- Researching and analyzing complex tax issues
- Preparing and reviewing tax returns
- Assisting in the preparation of legal documents
- Preparing legal memoranda and correspondence
- Representing clients in tax proceedings
- Keeping abreast of changes in the tax law
- Developing and maintaining excellent client relationships

The ideal candidate for this position will have the following qualifications:

- Admitted to practice in the state in which their designated office is located

- Experience in public finance or other transactional tax experience
- Strong research and writing skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
