Job Title: Paralegal - Removal Defense Team Organization: The Door Department: Legal Services Center Location: New York, NY Salary Range: $47,000 - $52,000 per year Overview: - The Door is a youth development organization that provides a comprehensive range of services to 9,000 young people in New York City each year. - Our mission is to empower young adults by offering diverse and caring services in a single location. - We provide health care, education, counseling, legal assistance, career development, and more for free. - Our goal is to equip motivated young people with the tools and resources they need to successfully transition into adulthood. Role: - The paralegal will assist attorneys in working with clients and preparing immigration applications. - They will also support the Managing Attorney and Director of Legal Services with grant management and compliance. - This is an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of undocumented children and youth. Responsibilities: - Screen clients for eligibility for immigration relief. - Assist attorneys with immigration applications. - Provide interpretation services to attorneys and other service providers. - Manage complex government and foundation grants. - Maintain databases and ensure grant compliance. - Report grant progress to funders. - Prepare for and manage audits. - Manage volunteers and undergraduate interns. - Perform additional functions as assigned by supervisor. Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree and at least 1 year of paralegal or advocacy experience required. - Experience working with youth and/or immigrant populations preferred. - Knowledge of positive youth development principles. - Strong written and oral communication skills. - Excellent organizational and time management skills. - Fluent in Spanish. Work Schedule: - Full-time, Monday-Friday, 35 hours per week.
