Nationwide is seeking a Senior Paralegal to join their Trial Division team in Michigan. In this role, you will provide pre-trial and trial support for litigated matters of moderate to high complexity, working alongside a team of legal professionals representing clients under both commercial and personal lines insurance policies.

Responsibilities include assisting in the preparation, review, filing, and service of pleadings, motions, discovery, and subpoenas, as well as conducting legal research and writing assignments. The ideal candidate will have experience in insurance defense litigation and/or plaintiff work, as well as high value complex litigation experience.

The company offers a 1:1 attorney/paralegal ratio, no billable hours, and a good work-life balance. This is a full-time, in-office position with occasional overtime and some work from home possible.

Key Responsibilities:

- Provide direct pre-trial and trial support for litigated matters of moderate to high complexity
- Assist in the preparation, review, filing, and service of pleadings, motions, discovery, and subpoenas
- Review and prepare documents for document production requests
- Analyze and respond to incoming discovery
- Review and analyze medical records
- Conduct legal research and writing assignments, including preparation of medical chronologies and deposition summaries
- Coordinate and schedule depositions, hearings, and meetings
- Communicate with clients and expert witnesses
- Provide administrative support for trial team(s)
- Understand and maintain confidentiality
- Have in-depth knowledge of each assigned case and its relevancy to trial preparation
- Coordinate workflow and support the overall litigation strategy
- May assist Managing Attorney with workflow coordination and mentor/train new and less experienced Paralegals and Legal Assistants

Requirements:

- Undergraduate studies in business administration, insurance, or related area preferred
- Certification in paralegal studies strongly preferred, or developed paralegal experience
- 5 years of experience as a paralegal with proven experience, or a combination of requisite experience and education
- General knowledge of law office operations, practices, and procedures
- Experience with filing and scheduling procedures of various courts and e-filing systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and case management databases
- Understanding of insurance practices and civil defense in state courts and agencies
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills, detail-oriented, and adaptable to learning new systems and processes
- Ability to prioritize and multitask
- Ability to work autonomously with low supervision
- Knowledge of ethical rules and compliance with corporate and NTD policies and procedures
