Overview: - Nationwide is seeking a Sr. Paralegal for their Trial Division in Michigan. - This role offers a 1:1 attorney/paralegal ratio, no billable hours, and a good work-life balance. - The ideal candidate will have experience in insurance defense litigation and/or plaintiff work, as well as experience with high-value complex cases in both commercial and personal lines. - This is a full-time, in-office position with occasional overtime and travel required. Responsibilities: - Provide direct pre-trial and trial support for litigated matters of moderate to high complexity. - Assist in the preparation, review, filing, and service of pleadings, motions, discovery, and subpoenas. - Review and prepare documents for document production requests. - Analyze and respond to incoming discovery. - Review and analyze medical records. - Conduct legal research and writing assignments. - Coordinate and schedule depositions, hearings, and meetings. - Provide administrative support to trial team(s). - Understand and maintain confidentiality in respect to the attorney-client privilege/relationship. - Have in-depth knowledge of each file assigned to trial team(s) and assist in preparation for depositions, hearings, and trial. - Bring a well-developed sense of organization to coordinate workflow. - May assist Managing Attorney with the coordination of workflow of support staff. - May mentor or train new and less experienced Paralegals and Legal Assistants. Qualifications: - Undergraduate studies in business administration, insurance, or other related area preferred. - Certification in paralegal studies strongly preferred. - 5+ years of experience as a paralegal. - Experience in civil litigation preferred. - Knowledge of law office operations, practices, and procedures. - Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and case management databases. - Strong communication and organizational skills. - Ability to prioritize and multitask. - Exercises independent initiative and judgment in daily tasks. - Compliance with corporate and NTD policies and procedures. - Complies with the private practice of law policy and ethical rules of the state. - Must pass a credit/background check.
