A law firm seeks a highly motivated and skilled mid-level associate attorney to join their Newark office, specializing in commercial disputes. The ideal candidate will have 4-5 years of litigation experience, demonstrating strong capabilities in managing complex cases from initiation through resolution. Experience with employment litigation is highly preferred, as this role will also support the firm's Labor, Employment, and Workplace Safety practice. The successful candidate will bring exceptional legal acumen, strategic thinking, and a collaborative spirit to the team.

Duties:

  • Independently manage a diverse caseload of commercial litigation matters from start to finish, including drafting pleadings, motions, and briefs
  • Develop and execute case strategies in collaboration with team members to deliver favorable outcomes for clients
  • Handle all aspects of discovery, including depositions, witness interviews, and document management
  • Prepare and argue motions and briefs before state and federal courts
  • Maintain proactive communication with clients, ensuring they are informed about case progress and negotiating settlements as appropriate
  • Stay current on legal trends, case law, and best practices in litigation
  • Contribute to business development efforts through client presentations and networking opportunities

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (.) degree from an accredited law school
  • Active membership and good standing with the state bar
  • 4-5 years of litigation experience, with a focus on commercial disputes and employment litigation preferred
  • Proven ability to handle litigation matters autonomously, from case inception to resolution
  • Strong experience in drafting legal documents, conducting discovery, and managing depositions
  • Experience in trial preparation and appearing before courts is preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to the state bar and in good standing

Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make strategic legal decisions
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Familiarity with electronic discovery and litigation support tools is a plus
