Law Clerks may not practice law, receive legal fees, and/or represent a party as counsel during their employment by the Court as Law Clerks. Other outside employment must be approved in advance. Employment is "at will."
Knowledge of:
Knowledge of: Principles, practices, methods and materials of legal research and analysis; Civil law. Some assignments may require specialized knowledge of criminal, family, juvenile or probate law; Legal terms, procedures, forms and documents used in court cases; Government Code and other statues related to Court process and rules of Court.
Ability to:
Ability to: Plan, organize and use traditional and computerized legal research methods; Research, analyze and appraise a variety of legal documents; Research legal issues and present clear and logical arguments and statement of facts and law; Communicate effectively orally and in writing; Set priorities and allocate resources to meet needs in a timely, effective manner; Prepare clear, concise and comprehensive written materials; Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of Court staff and management, judicial officers, and others encountered in the course of work.

EXAMINATION PROCESS:
This recruitment is intended only for current 3L students. All selected applicants will begin as part of a cohort. The anticipated beginning of employment for the next cohort of selected 3L applicants is September 2, 2025. Priority consideration will be given to those who apply early.

Law Clerk 3L Cohort 2025 (3L Applicants Only)
The Superior Court of California County of Los Angeles is seeking 3L law students to join our Law Clerk Cohort 2025. This is a full-time position with a starting salary of $89, - $94, annually. As part of the largest unified trial court in the United States, you will have the opportunity to work with 580 judges and commissioners and over 4,800 full-time Court employees.
Position Description:
As a Law Clerk, you will conduct legal research, analyze motions, and provide written recommendations to expedite court calendars. This is a limited-term position of up to 30 months, with formal performance appraisals given at the 6-month and 18-month anniversary. You must be in good standing and within six months of graduation from an accredited school of law to qualify for this position.
