A law firm is seeking a Patent Engineer or Agent for their Chicago, IL office with the following responsibilities, qualifications, and benefits:
Job Overview:
The Patent Engineer or Agent will support patent prosecution and portfolio management activities, particularly in the areas of video processing, video codecs, and related technologies. The role requires technical expertise, legal understanding, and strong communication skills.
Duties:
- Conduct patent searches and analyses to assess patentability and freedom to operate
- Draft patent applications and responses to office actions
- Manage patent portfolios and coordinate with inventors, attorneys, and clients
- Assist in patent analysis/opinions of counsel and inter partes reviews (IPRs)
- Stay updated on video coding standards and emerging technologies in virtual/augmented reality and AI
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering
- 2+ years of prosecution experience at a firm or in-house, with portfolio management experience
- Strong knowledge and experience in video processing and video codecs
- Familiarity with video coding standards
- Experience in virtual/augmented reality and AI is a plus
- Graduate-level experience or advanced technical degree is a plus
- Admission to the USPTO is a plus
