With over 77,000 pilots at 43 . and Canadian airlines, ALPA is the largest airline pilot union in the world and the largest non-governmental aviation safety organization. The ideal candidate will have a Juris Doctor (JD), Master of Law (LLM), or similar advanced degree from an approved school of law and be a member in good standing of the Bar. As a Labor Relations Counsel, you will provide assistance to pilot governing bodies and individual members on all subjects that affect their employment. This includes handling complex labor relations assignments, negotiating agreements, monitoring and administering contracts, and managing FAA actions against individual pilots. You will also be responsible for preparing summaries of NTSB Accident/Incident hearings, coordinating activities during negotiations, and providing staff assistance in all phases of the process. To be successful in this role, you must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, and be able to effectively interact with internal staff, external contacts, senior legal and aviation professionals, and pilots. You should also have a thorough understanding of applicable laws and comprehensive experience in association policies and procedures. In addition to your legal qualifications, you should also have experience in labor law and litigation, with a preference for those with experience in collective bargaining, grievance handling, and arbitration. Knowledge of the Railway Labor Act and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) is also preferred. This position may require travel, usually between 10-25% of the time, with sporadic periods of 50-75% travel. The physical demands of this role include operating a computer/smartphone/tablet, maintaining a stationary position, and moving around the office and local metropolitan area. This may also include occasional bending, stooping, squatting, and/or pushing and pulling, as well as lifting up to 10 pounds of weight. While on travel, you may be responsible for moving and retrieving luggage weighing up to 50 pounds.
