Staff Attorney - Pro Bono & Community Partnerships at Legal Aid Chicago: Salary: $63,500+ based on experience Job Title: Staff Attorney Experience: . degree and licensed to practice law in Illinois or able to waive into Illinois bar Organization: Legal Aid Chicago Department: Pro Bono & Community Partnerships Location: Chicago, IL Legal Aid Chicago is a non-profit organization that has been providing free civil legal assistance to people in poverty in metropolitan Chicago for over 50 years. They believe in providing quality legal representation to all individuals, regardless of income, and work to dismantle legal barriers that perpetuate inequality. They are seeking a full-time Staff Attorney to primarily work on criminal records relief. Responsibilities: - Provide comprehensive legal representation to clients in criminal records relief matters - Support volunteer attorneys in providing representation in criminal records relief and other subject matters - Maintain knowledge in other areas of law handled by Legal Aid Chicago - Work collaboratively with supervisors, staff, students, and volunteers to provide legal services - Attend and assist with expungement legal clinics - Participate in complex litigation or advocacy to address systemic issues - Develop and participate in trainings for agencies, advocates, clients, and community groups - Establish and maintain relationships with community organizations - Track data related to pro bono work and assist with reporting - Design and deliver effective training to pro bono partners - Maintain case files and timekeeping - Participate in other activities related to poverty law - Assist with grant reporting - Other duties as assigned Benefits: - Medical, dental, and vision insurance - Paid time off - Paid parental leave - Retirement plan - Life and accidental death & dismemberment insurance - Employee assistance program - Chicago Bar Association membership - Monthly internet reimbursement - Eligible for federal public service loan forgiveness program Requirements: - . degree and licensed to practice law in Illinois or able to waive into Illinois bar - Experience in criminal records relief preferred - Strong communication and organizational skills - Comfortable working with volunteers and speaking to groups - Ability to work effectively in cross-cultural situations - Commitment to and experience with client communities and/or people living in poverty To apply: Submit a cover letter, resume, writing sample, and references.
