Summary: - Job title: Dual Remote Services & Backup Floating Staff Attorney-Statewide - Organization: Maryland Center for Legal Assistance (MCLA) - Location: Statewide, with primary assignment in Annapolis - Type: Full-time - Salary range: $74, - $115, annually The Maryland Center for Legal Assistance (MCLA) is seeking a full-time Dual Remote Services & Backup Floating Staff Attorney to provide free, compassionate, and high-quality legal services to individuals in need. This attorney will primarily work at the Remote Services Center in Annapolis but may also be called upon to fill in at walk-in offices around the state. The ideal candidate will have experience in civil litigation and the ability to handle a broad range of duties in a timely manner. Responsibilities: - Provide brief legal advice and information to self-represented litigants in various civil legal matters. - Assist self-represented litigants with drafting pleadings, preparing for trial, completing court forms, and understanding court documents and the law. - Refer individuals to appropriate legal service organizations, agencies, and lawyer referral services when necessary. - Perform other duties as assigned, including local travel between offices and occasional evening shifts. Qualifications: - Admitted to practice in the State of Maryland. - One year or more of civil litigation experience, clinical or clerkship experience will also be considered. - Ability to conduct rapid legal research using Westlaw. - Strong customer service skills and ability to communicate complex legal concepts in simple terms. - Fluency in Spanish and American Sign Language preferred. Work Environment: The work is primarily performed in a general office setting with regular interaction via telephone, videoconference, instant messaging, email, and in-person. Some duties may also be performed in a community setting or remotely.
