Job Overview
A prestigious law firm is seeking an experienced Defense Litigation Associate to join its growing Mass Torts and Industry-Wide Litigation team. This role will focus on asbestos litigation, representing asbestos defendants in various industries across state and federal courts throughout the country. The position offers a collaborative work environment with colleagues from multiple offices, providing opportunities to work on high-profile cases with clients across a wide range of industries.

Location

  • Uniondale, NY

Duties

  • Regularly take and defend depositions.
  • Research legal issues and collaborate with senior attorneys to develop defense strategies.
  • Navigate claims through resolution, including dismissal, settlement, motion practice, or trial.
  • Draft memoranda, pleadings, motions, and other legal documents.
  • Represent clients in courtroom appearances and hearings.
  • Work closely with co-counsel across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Manage client relationships and provide strategic legal counsel.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of deposition and courtroom experience in toxic tort matters, with a preference for specific asbestos defense experience.
  • Admission to the New York Bar is required.
  • Admission to the Connecticut, Massachusetts, or New Jersey Bar preferred (or ability to waive into NJ).
  • Proficiency with Zoom, MS Teams, and other video conferencing platforms for depositions and court conferences.
  • Ability to travel for in-person depositions and court conferences, including overnight travel as needed.
  • Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload.
  • Ability to quickly absorb, process, and understand new information.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Professional, cooperative, positive, and flexible attitude.
  • Military experience is welcome and valued.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admission to the New York Bar is required.
  • Admission to the Connecticut, Massachusetts, and/or New Jersey Bar (or ability to waive into NJ) is preferred.
