PRC is seeking a compassionate and experienced Staff Attorney to join our Legal Advocacy program in San Francisco, CA. As a member of our legal team, you will have the opportunity to provide critical legal services to the most vulnerable populations in the community, including those who are unhoused, non-English speaking, active drug-using, and living with mental health issues. By using a harm reduction model, you will help individuals access Social Security disability benefits, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), the Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants (CAPI), and healthcare programs. Our mission at PRC is to help people affected by HIV/AIDS, substance use, or mental health issues realize their full potential by providing integrated legal, social, and health services. As a Staff Attorney, you will play a vital role in our Legal Advocacy program by providing direct representation to low-income individuals in accessing healthcare and disability benefits. You will work with a diverse population, including LGBTQIA+, homeless and/or at risk of homelessness, and non-English speaking individuals. This is a full-time, exempt position with a competitive salary and excellent benefits, including medical, dental, and life insurance, retirement contributions, and generous paid time-off. Responsibilities: • Perform individual assessments of clients' needs related to healthcare access and disability benefits • Advocate for clients in the claims process, negotiating with relevant agencies • Prepare cases for appeal and appear before Administrative Law Judges or other tribunals • Maintain confidential client files and update records in the database • Provide consumer and provider trainings/outreach as requested • Assist with special projects as assigned Qualifications: • Active member of the California State Bar in good standing • Two (2) years of public benefits and/or healthcare advocacy experience preferred • Familiarity with mental health issues, HIV/AIDS, and state and federal laws regarding disability benefits • Ability to work well with diverse populations, including low-income individuals, people living with mental health impairments, and those in the LGBTQIA+ community • Knowledge of Harm Reduction theory and practice preferred • Bilingual and bicultural (Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Arabic, Vietnamese or Russian) highly desirable If you are a compassionate and dedicated attorney with a passion for helping those in need, we encourage you to apply for this rewarding position at PRC.
