Sr. Paralegal - Workers Comp position is available at Nationwide, a Fortune 100 insurance company, in California. This is a full-time position with a hybrid work opportunity, allowing for remote work depending on location. The preferred candidate will have extensive experience in Workers Compensation and will be responsible for providing top-quality legal services to support the company's mission of protecting people, businesses, and futures with extraordinary care. The Senior Paralegal will work with a team of legal professionals representing clients under both commercial and personal lines insurance policies. They will provide pre-trial and trial support, assist in the preparation of legal documents, conduct legal research and writing assignments, and maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job. The Senior Paralegal will also have in-depth knowledge of each file assigned to their team and will be capable of understanding the relevancy of case information. Key Responsibilities: - Provide direct pre-trial and trial support for litigated matters of moderate to high complexity - Assist in the preparation, review, filing, and service of pleadings, motions, discovery, and subpoenas - Review and prepare documents for document production requests - Analyze and respond to incoming discovery - Review and analyze medical records - Conduct legal research and writing assignments - Take initiative to move case files to trial/resolution - Coordinate and schedule depositions, hearings, and meetings - Communicate with clients and expert witnesses - Provide administrative support to trial team(s) - Understand and maintain confidentiality in respect to the attorney-client privilege/relationship - Have in-depth knowledge of each file assigned to trial team(s) - Coordinate workflow and support the overall litigation strategy - Assist Managing Attorney with the coordination of workflow of support staff - Mentor or train new and less experienced Paralegals and Legal Assistants - Perform other responsibilities as assigned Reporting Relationships: The Senior Paralegal will report to the Managing Attorney. Typical Skills and Experiences: - Undergraduate studies in business administration, insurance or other related area preferred - Certification in paralegal studies strongly preferred; or developed paralegal experience - Five years of experience as a paralegal with proven experience - General knowledge of law office operations, practices and procedures - Experience in filing and scheduling procedures of the various courts - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and case management databases - Understanding of insurance practice civil defense in state courts and agencies - Strong verbal and written communication skills - Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented - Technologically savvy and adaptable to learning new systems and processes - Ability to prioritize and multitask - Exercises independent initiative and judgment - Ability to design and maintain filing and follow-up systems - Ability to acquire skills and/or knowledge necessary to research information and determine the applicability of legal action - Must comply with all corporate and NTD policies and procedures - Complies with the private practice of law policy and the ethical rules of the state where the position is located Values: The Senior Paralegal regularly and consistently demonstrates the Nationwide values.
