This is a full-time, specific term position through December 2024, with the possibility of renewal upon receipt of funding. As a Managing Attorney, you will play a crucial role in providing community-based legal services and advocating for immigrant rights. Essential Functions and Responsibilities As the Managing Attorney, you will be responsible for implementing and monitoring AFSC's Community Justice Legal Services Project in Red Bank, NJ. Your key responsibilities will include: - Participating in grant and program planning for community-based legal services - Providing training, support, and supervision to AFSC attorneys, accredited representatives, and legal assistants - Maintaining a small client caseload and representing clients in immigration courts and administrative agencies - Participating in meetings with government, private, and non-profit stakeholders on immigration issues - Assisting in recruiting, onboarding, training, and supervising project staff, interns, and volunteers - Monitoring legal updates and ensuring staff are up to date - Participating in advocacy activities to support policy changes that positively impact immigrant clients and communities - Compiling quarterly reports and assisting in the preparation of proposals, reports, and fundraising materials - Devising innovative strategies to better serve community members who proceed pro se in immigration matters - Facilitating training sessions for staff and organizing legal screenings and workshops for immigrant communities - Collaborating with the Communications Department to raise awareness of immigration practices and policies - Participating in staff meetings and case reviews Qualifications To be considered for this position, you must have the following qualifications: - - Minimum of five years' experience with immigration law and procedures, with a focus on removal defense - Minimum of two years' supervisory experience - Excellent legal skills and understanding of movement lawyering principles - Bilingual in English and Spanish - Strong written and oral communication skills - Self-motivated and detail-oriented - Ability to work evenings and weekends - Commitment to Quaker values and testimonies - Understanding and compatibility with AFSC's principles and philosophy - Understanding and commitment to issues of race, class, nationality, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, and disabilities - Ability to work and communicate with a diverse staff Compensation and Benefits AFSC offers a competitive salary range of $70,000 - $81,661, commensurate with experience. This is an exempt position with comprehensive medical and hospitalization plans, term life and accident insurances, a defined benefit pension plan, and fringe benefits. You will also have the opportunity to participate in unemployment and worker's compensation and social security.
