Job Title: Defense Litigation Associate Attorney
Job Location: Hartford, CT

Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking an experienced Defense Litigation Associate Attorney for its growing practice. The position offers the opportunity to join a national Mass Torts and Industry-Wide Litigation team. The focus will be on NYS Labor Law and personal injury litigation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in general liability litigation and a desire to contribute to a team-oriented and fast-paced environment.

Duties:

  • Research Labor Law and personal injury issues, collaborating with senior attorneys to develop defense strategies.
  • Take and defend depositions as required.
  • Manage discovery processes, including e-discovery.
  • Draft legal documents, including reports, memoranda, pleadings, discovery demands and responses, motions, and briefs.
  • Participate in trial and ADR planning and preparation.
  • Represent clients in courtroom conferences and motion appearances.
  • Oversee the daily management of Labor Law and personal injury files under supervision.
  • Maintain a focus on meeting the firm’s billable hours requirement (1900 hours annually).

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in general liability litigation.
  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Admission to the New York Bar is required.
  • Admission to the Connecticut, Massachusetts, or New Jersey Bar (or ability to waive into NJ) is preferred.
  • Experience appearing before NYS courts is essential; federal experience is a plus.
  • Strong background in depositions, motion practice, pleadings, and e-discovery.
  • Familiarity with Zoom, MS Teams, and other video conferencing tools for remote participation in depositions and court conferences.
  • Willingness to travel for in-person depositions and court conferences as needed.
  • Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to quickly absorb and understand new information.
  • A high standard of performance with a sense of responsibility and attention to detail.
  • A positive, cooperative, and flexible attitude is essential.
  • Military experience is welcome.

Education:

  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the New York Bar is required.
  • Admission to additional State Bars (Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey) is preferred.

Skills:

  • Strong litigation skills, including taking and defending depositions, motion writing, and legal research.
  • Expertise in e-discovery and managing large-scale litigation files.
  • Proficient in Zoom, MS Teams, and similar virtual meeting platforms.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for client interactions and collaboration with colleagues.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently.
