For more than 50 years, Munger, Tolles & Olson attorneys have been partnering with clients on their most important and complex cases and deals. With offices in Los Angeles and San Francisco, we maintain a national and international practice. Our principal areas of practice include litigation, corporate, labor and employment, environmental, real estate, financial restructuring and tax. Munger Tolles has purposefully maintained a low-leverage environment and eschewed the high-leverage model adopted by many firms. We believe our one-to-one overall partner-to-associate ratio instills a work ethic that results in a cost-effective approach for our clients. In every representation, our 200 lawyers are expected to make a difference in developing and implementing strategies to obtain the best results for the client. In a survey conducted by The American Lawyer, clients said they called on Munger Tolles in “precedent-setting cases that require a creative mind.” Where resources are needed, the survey noted that we are able to deploy an “army of trial lawyers capable of waging war.” We are involved in some of the most high-profile legal cases in the country and count among our clients Bank of America, Transocean, Edison International, Verizon, Rambus, Oaktree Capital Management, KB Home, LG Display, Yucaipa Cos. and Berkshire Hathaway. Descriptions of these and other representations can be found on our Practice and Industries pages.

Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP Reviews

- Reviewed on July 21, 2017

I hope that the leadership team sees fit to reevaluate staffing levels moving forward. The firm would run a lot more efficiently with more support staff.

Pros : The associates here are all very hardworking and intelligent, and the partners are fairly accessible and down to earth. This is a pretty good place to work, for the most part.
Cons : There doesn't seem to be enough support staff available when crunch time rolls around. This can make things more difficult than they need to be.

Summer associate program

Second-year law students who are interested in summer associate positions may sign up to see us on campus or contact us separately. We are also interested in hiring 3L students who would like to spend a pre-clerkship summer with us. We look for those who have demonstrated excellence and leadership in their prior pursuits and who bring both intellectual curiosity and a sense of individuality to an already extremely talented group of lawyers.

Our summer program will provide you a realistic idea of what it is like to practice law at our firm. You will do meaningful work and work closely with attorneys in various practice areas. Each summer associate is assigned a work coordinator, who will find assignments that are of interest to you and provide guidance and facilitate feedback during the summer. You will be invited to attend our weekly lunches, training programs, social events, and practice group meetings.
