LawCrossing Reports over 24,300 Lawyer Jobs Awaiting Takers

The most recent jobs data on LawCrossing reports that there are more than 46,000 legal jobs openings in the U.S and about 24,300 jobs for lawyers are awaiting takers. While noticeable contractions were reported in the legal jobs market in the first half of 2013, alterations to U.S. rules and regulations are showing that the slack in legal jobs will soon fade away. Prospective students are still discouraged from pursuing education in law with job opportunities seeming bleak. But as the government makes efforts to accelerate the U.S. economy, lawyer jobs will increase. Recent research by LawCrossing reports that jobs for experienced lawyers are currently on the rise. Law firms require lawyers who can play a major role in increasing a company's productivity or manage company restructures. In line to this, an uptick has been noted in the recruitment of commercial lawyers, who help with procurement and contract work in IT and telecommunications streams. The looming 'Obamacare' law has also been able to spur a rise in legal jobs and the JOBS Act (Jumpstart Our Business Start-Ups) is following suit. With the adoption of the alteration made to the JOBS Act by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), hedge funds and similar firms will be able to promote their wares. Correspondingly, this is expected to create more jobs for lawyers needed to protect investors, to sue issuers and to keep issuers from regulatory shackles. With new jobs being created for lawyers, it is likely that law school applicants will be better placed in future. Therefore, law students should rethink their decision of retreating from attaining a law school education. LawCrossing notes that the jobs market was tight for newly minted lawyers in the past, but the situation is changing. Law firms are hiring again. Additionally, merging law firms are also creating several jobs for lawyers. Lay-offs in the legal sector had been rampant two months back, but presently the legal sector is significantly absorbing both male and female lawyers. While statistics show women continuing to lag in comparison to men in top jobs and in salary at most law practices, the National Association of Women Lawyers Foundation reveals that national average of female equity partners at large firms is about15 percent. Many firms are retaining their female lawyers and offering them promotions, although the economic situation is tight.
