Advice to law firm management: Respect the field

Pros: Not Much

Cons: George C and Lawyers here are just in it for the money. Lawyers get a bad name because lawyers like these

Pros: Not impressed. They treated my disabled husband horribly. He was a lawyer there. They fired him because of his disability and then, according to Sheryl Hanley, deleted all his employment files. I asked for them. She said: "Most items would not be in a document form and emails generally are not retained on our system beyond the retention term." He died a few months after he was fired, due to his disability, leaving a wife and three children behind with no support whatsoever.

Cons: ABOVE.

Hiring Criteria

Locke Lord LLP follows the set of hiring criteria outlined below.

The firm seeks applicants whose academic records in college and law school are outstanding. It also attaches considerable importance to fluency and command over the language, both oral and written, and prefers students who have demonstrated leadership qualities. Those candidates who are not on the firm's on-campus interview list are advised to apply via the firm's self-apply website, posting their resumes, transcripts along with other relevant details. Following an initial interview, whether on-campus or at the firm, the chosen candidates are called back to the firm's offices for a second round of interviews where he or she will meet with four or five attorneys for thirty minutes. The Hiring Committee and Legal Recruiting professionals make every effort to respond to each candidate as quickly as possible after their interviews. The firm reimburses or shares travel expenses with other firms, for students who are from out-of-town and have been called back for the second round of interviews. Reimbursement expenses include reasonable air or train fare, ground transportation, hotel accommodations and cost of meals. The firm does not reimburse candidates for initial interviews. Edwards Wildman is no longer accepting applications for our 2013 Summer Associate Program.

The firm's summer associate program is eight-week program. The firm provides its summer associates with a wide array of challenging and interesting assignments that reflect the real work of the firm. Students are treated as integral members of the firm and encouraged to handle complex business deals and hotly contested cases. Students also attend client meetings and assist in deposition trials. Students are also encouraged to participate in pro bono matters. The firm believes that such exposure helps the students to gain a realistic sense of what their work life would be as a junior associate and to assess and evaluate the practice areas and identify and locate their areas of interest. While summer associates and the firm's attorneys work together in the office, they also have the chance to interact with one another in a more casual and friendly atmosphere during the many social events held outside the workplace. Summer associates are paired with an associate mentor and a hiring committee advisor to guide them through the summer. Work is given through an assignment coordinator, and typically they are expected to complete at least 11 to 15 assignments over the course of the summer. The firm says that its summer program has two overriding goals: to train young attorneys to become the best practitioners possible and to make life in the workplace fulfilling, rewarding, and enjoyable.
