Both of these firms had already made a name for themselves in Mackay, having been established four years prior. Nissen & Coates, co-founded by Andrew Coates, had Andrew as the managing partner of the Mackay office until April 2007. On the other hand, Seeto McKay was co-founded by Jeremy Seeto, who is now the senior partner in Brisbane, along with the late Mark McKay. Tragically, Mark McKay lost his life in a motor vehicle accident in June 1988. In honor of Mark, the practice was named McKays Solicitors.

Today, the McKays Group© is an alliance of independently owned and operated legal practices, all operating under the name McKays.
