Martensen, Niemann, & Galvin, formerly known as Martensen, Niemann & Sorensen, owes its origins to Milton H. Cloud, a visionary attorney who established his practice in Paxton. Cloud's expertise as a title examiner and his numerous positions in the legal field propelled him to prominence. Teaming up with F.M. Thompson in the early 1900s, Cloud and Thompson became renowned for their representation of the Big 4 and Lyman and Wall Drainage districts, even taking a case all the way to the Illinois Supreme Court.

Following Cloud's passing, Delbert E. Martensen, affectionately known as "D.E.," joined forces with F.M. Thompson. D.E. Martensen's deep understanding of Illinois Drainage law and his involvement in the drafting committee for the Illinois Drainage Act of 1956 solidified his reputation as a legal luminary. After Thompson's demise, D.E. Martensen continued his solo practice until his son, Robert E. Martensen, joined him in 1961.

In 1977, Jerry Niemann joined Robert E. Martensen and Harold Andrew, forming the formidable partnership of Martensen, Andrew & Niemann. This dynamic trio made waves in the legal community until Harold Andrew relocated. In 2011, Ross Sorensen joined the firm as an associate, eventually becoming a partner in 2014. The firm's name was subsequently changed to Martensen, Niemann & Sorensen. The year 2017 marked the arrival of Holly Galvin as an associate attorney, and in 2022, she ascended to the position of partner. In the same year, Robert E. Martensen and Jerry Niemann officially retired, though they continue to lend their expertise to the firm on occasion.
