Advice to law firm management: This firm should consider finding adequate parking for their employees. There are always option such as parking garages where people can park.

Pros: This firm does a really great job of taking care of their employees. I always felt appreciated working here and never felt taken advantage of. They give you good pay for your position and benefits as well. They won't make you come if the weather is bad and allows plenty of sick time.

Cons: The location for this firm could be a bit better. It's located pretty far from where I live and parking is not always available. It would be nice if they had a parking lot but spaces are tight.

Advice to law firm management: Work on improving how management treats the staff. Improve the benefits.

Pros: The firm is very supportive of its employees. It has a great national presence. There are strong pro-bono programs.

Cons: There are a lack of benefits. Management is only concerned with their own job and protecting themselves.

Jackson Lewis P.C. follows the set of hiring criteria outlined below.

Being a comparatively smaller firm, Jackson Lewis maintains more flexible hiring standards than other industry peers. The firm tends to focus on hiring from local law schools although we have recently hired from other national law schools.

The firm seeks candidates with strong written and oral communication skills, good academic credentials, common sense and a sincere desire to practice employment law exclusively.

Pro bono

Jackson Lewis' pro bono activities provide legal training and experience and foster a greater awareness of the diversity of people in the community, the problems they face, and the creative ways those problems can be addressed.

The firm expects all of its attorneys to render at least fifty hours of pro bono legal services per year. A pro bono coordinator assists attorneys in each of the firm's regional offices across the country in identifying pro bono projects. The firm also encourages non-legal community service, such as participation on non-profit boards.

Jackson Lewis has handled a wide range of pro bono projects, ranging from representing individuals seeking political asylum in the United States to homeless veterans seeking disability benefits.

Summer associate program


Being an employment and labor specialty firm, Jackson Lewis provides a summer associate program that exposes law students to a broad range of practice areas and professional experiences. The firm encourages summer associates to participate in and attend depositions, trials, and client meetings.

The firm also sponsors cultural outings and other events during the summer program allowing summer associates to interact with one another and with Jackson Lewis attorneys in their respective offices.

In the 2010 summer program, only six out of 12 summer associates firm-wide received full-time offers.

Working for the Jackson Lewis P.C.


Jackson Lewis provides hands-on experience to the associates. Most litigation matters are staffed with a team of two or three attorneys. In some instances, work is assigned by a particular partner, while in others, associates work exclusively with one or two partners.

Associates at Jackson Lewis are required to bill a minimum 1900 hours. Associates are expected to hit 2,000 billable hours for bonus consideration and salary increases, and the firm is strict about billables.

Jackson Lewis has a two-tier partnership model depending on the office. Attorneys are up for consideration in their ninth year of practice, and lateral attorneys must have served at the firm for at least three years before they will be considered for partnership.
