Volunteer Legal Intern - Criminal/Civil Divisions (Fall 2025)
Job Responsibilities
Volunteer Legal Interns at the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. in the Northern District will be engaged in various legal tasks across the Criminal and Civil Divisions. Their responsibilities include:
- Assisting attorneys with legal research and writing pleadings.
- Preparing for trial proceedings and completing appellate briefs.
- Observing pretrial proceedings, trials, and other court activities, particularly in cases they have worked on or those of general interest within the office.
- In the Civil Division, interns are encouraged to observe hearings, trials, appellate oral arguments, and other legal proceedings. They may also attend meetings with client agencies, settlement conferences, mediations, depositions, site visits, and conduct witness interviews.
- Interns may appear in court if they are certified pursuant to local rules.
Education and Experience Information
Candidates must meet the following educational and experience requirements:
- Completion of one year at an ABA-accredited law school before the start of the internship.
- Enrollment in an accredited law school at least half-time during school-year terms.
- Completion of a background check prior to starting the internship.
- Law school graduation concludes eligibility for volunteer positions unless the candidate is a graduate law student enrolled at least half-time and not practicing law.
- Must be a . citizen.
