Job Title:
Head of Construction Defect Claims
Job Responsibilities:
- Own the development and performance of Construction Defect (CD) Claim teams, ensuring the quality, accuracy, and timely resolution of liability claims with the highest complexity and/or severity.
- Continuously develop talent by creating opportunities for direct reports to grow and strengthen new skills.
- Monitor the performance of the team, analyzing any problematic trends to identify root cause problems.
- Escalate issues or recommend solutions to operational leadership, advocating for a culture committed to identifying process efficiencies for continuous improvement.
- Demonstrate a passion and vision towards a highly effective and engaged employee culture by selecting top talent, delivering continuous coaching, recognizing employees, and holding others accountable for team development.
- Advocate for claims customer service excellence by building an understanding of the customer experience that meets and exceeds stakeholders’ expectations.
- Identify changes in claim best practices and workflows to drive high-quality outcomes and develop training solutions to embed and sustain those practices within the organization.
- Identify changes in technology to support the execution of practices and workflows, collaborating with IT counterparts in the design, build, and test of those changes.
- Utilize data and analytics to make informed decisions and drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with business partners internally and externally to ensure profitable growth.
- Develop coverage acumen and proactively ensure the team manages litigation effectively.
Education and Experience Information:
- Significant experience in claims leadership roles within the insurance industry, with material experience in Construction Defect claim management.
- Multi-jurisdictional expertise.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
- Advanced degree, including Juris Doctor (.), preferred.
- Ability to manage a diverse group of claims teams located in multiple locations.
- Directly manage and guide a team of Managers responsible for overseeing the handling of all aspects of claims.
- Regularly participate in claims roundtable discussions focusing on claims issues surrounding coverage, liability, and assessment of damages.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present to senior leadership.
- Leadership skills: capability to plan, organize, delegate, and develop direct reports.
- Ability to persuade and influence people through superior written and oral communications; explain concepts clearly, challenge ideas effectively, and argue in favor of own point of view.
- Possess emotional intelligence and self-awareness.
- Embrace changes, invite feedback related to performance, and deal constructively with criticism.
