Job Title: Consultant, Personal Property Tax
Job Responsibilities:
The Property Tax Consultant at Company is responsible for ensuring compliance with personal property tax requirements for clients. This involves a variety of tasks including:
- Preparing personal property tax returns, renditions, filings, and reconciliation of assets for assigned clients.
- Ensuring timely processing and mailing of all applicable returns, renditions, and remittances.
- Reviewing personal property tax assessments, handling assessment protests, and managing audits.
- Responding to client inquiries and requests from tax authorities.
- Reviewing documentation and researching issues.
- Working with raw data to complete calculations.
- Assisting in managing a high-volume compliance portfolio.
- Providing exceptional client service to multi-state companies by identifying tax savings opportunities.
- Assisting multi-state companies with state and local tax controversies, preparing clients for auditor discussions, representing clients at hearings and appeal meetings, and preparing protests.
- Maintaining an annual client filing calendar.
- Learning and using proprietary software applications to manage data.
- Updating internal compliance software with appropriate tax-related information for each assigned client.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Candidates for the Property Tax Consultant position should have the following qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in fields such as Accounting, Business Administration/Management, Business Computer Information Systems, Economics, Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Finance, International Business, Public Administration, Real Estate, or other related disciplines. A Master’s degree in Business Discipline, JD, Business Analytics, Operations, or Supply Chain Management is also considered.
- A minimum of six hours in Accounting, Economics, Real Estate, or Finance with a GPA of or higher, and a Major GPA of or higher.
- Relevant work experience is preferred, such as internships, summer positions, or school jobs, or one to three years of audit or tax-related experience.
- A desire to perform in a high-energy team environment.
- Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, and strong verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to prioritize tasks, work on multiple assignments, and manage ambiguity.
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team with professionals at all levels.
Computer Skills:
To successfully perform this job, an individual must have intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet navigation and research.
Certificates and Licenses:
A valid driver’s license is required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment:
- The work environment is a standard indoor working environment.
- The role may involve occasional long periods of sitting while working at a computer.
- Regular interaction with employees at all levels of the company in person and via e-mail and telephone is required.
- Regular interaction with clients and interfacing with external vendors in person and via e-mail and telephone is also required.
- Independent travel requirement is up to 10-20%.
