Job Title: 2026 Oceans Clerkship

Job Responsibilities:
The Oceans Program at the organization is seeking summer law clerks to work on a mix of international and domestic ocean matters. The clerks will have the opportunity to collaborate with several attorneys on case development and litigation strategy. Their responsibilities will include drafting pleadings and briefs, conducting legal research, developing strategy and legal theories, gathering evidence, and attending client meetings and court proceedings. The clerkship also includes various programmatic offerings such as in-person and virtual seminars with attorneys and guest speakers on current environmental issues, interactions with other local and regional environmental groups, and a job interview workshop.

Education and Experience Information:
Eligible candidates must be enrolled in a . law school through fall 2026 and must be available to commit to ten weeks during the summer of 2026. Summer law clerks are required to work from within the . during their clerkship. Candidates should be law students who are interested in environmental law and are drawn to the mission of the organization.

Salary Information:
The summer law clerkships are paid positions. The organization will provide a one-time stipend at the start of the clerkship in the amount of $1, per week, minus the total amount received from any other sources and applicable taxes. The clerkship is designed to be 10 weeks long at full-time hours ( hours/week). Candidates are welcome to pursue outside funding, and the ability to secure such funding will not be considered as part of the hiring process.

Application Process:
Interested candidates should submit their complete application via Jobvite by 5:00pm PT on September 1, 2025. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Each litigation team within the organization participates in clerk hiring, and candidates may submit applications to whichever and however many litigation teams they are interested in. Applicants will be required to respond to a follow-up email in September, requesting their ranked choice of the teams for which they have applied. Rankings should not be included within the Jobvite application.

- Cover letter addressing relevant aspects of the candidate's background not apparent or fully explained in the resume, why the candidate is drawn to the organization's mission and the litigation teams for which they are applying, and any particular environmental or public interest issues that inspire the candidate.
- Additional documents, including a recent legal writing sample of no more than 10 pages that primarily reflects the candidate's work and an unofficial transcript. The writing sample should include a cover page indicating the extent to which it reflects edits and feedback from others.
- Finalists will be asked to submit two references, which may be law school faculty or legal professional, clinical, or volunteer supervisors.
