Job Overview:
A prominent law firm based in Kansas City, MO, seeks an experienced attorney to take on a leadership role in its Workers' Compensation practice. This individual will be entrusted with overseeing department operations, guiding a team of attorneys and staff, and ensuring process adherence and professional growth across the group. In addition to managing a personal caseload, this position includes developing training programs, implementing quality control procedures, and supporting staff development. The role offers an opportunity to influence department strategy and enhance client service delivery.

Duties:

  • Lead onboarding for new attorneys within the Workers' Compensation department

  • Design and implement ongoing training programs, including structured 30/60/90-day milestones

  • Establish and manage performance benchmarks for legal staff

  • Conduct regular continuing legal education and skills development sessions

  • Provide hands-on support and mentorship to attorneys on complex casework or procedural questions

  • Collaborate with the Chief Revenue Officer to refine departmental processes and implement updates

  • Oversee attorney caseload assignments and track team progress from intake through resolution

  • Maintain a personal docket of workers' compensation cases

  • Troubleshoot client-related concerns around communication or process issues

  • Support case manager team leads in reinforcing staff competency

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a legal team or department

  • Strong understanding of workers’ compensation litigation and administrative procedures

  • The capacity to manage multiple responsibilities and competing priorities

  • Ability to create training materials and evaluate team performance

  • Skilled in resolving client or operational issues effectively and professionally

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active license to practice law in Missouri

Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of workers' compensation legal frameworks

  • Superior organizational, written, and verbal communication abilities

  • Proven team-building and interpersonal skills

  • Detail-oriented with strong time management and case tracking capability

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, high-volume practice environment
