Job Title: Tax Manager, Specialized Tax Services Partnerships
Job Responsibilities:
As a Tax Manager specializing in Partnerships, the individual will be tasked with advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives. This includes addressing specific partnership-related issues such as section 704(b) and taxable income allocations, capital account maintenance, liability analysis and allocations, section 734(b) and 743(b) adjustment calculations, and Tax Receivable Agreement (TRA) calculations. The role requires applying knowledge and experience to comprehend potential partnership taxation issues and assist in the preparation of partnership-specific computations. The Tax Manager plays a crucial role in the leadership team of the STS Partnership Practice and actively participates in the development of the group. Key responsibilities also include process improvement, team-building initiatives, maintaining client relationships, and providing guidance to other team members.
Specific duties include:
- Developing and maintaining an in-depth understanding of technical and practical issues regarding partnership taxation.
- Identifying complex tax issues that require research and providing a methodology for efficient research processes.
- Assisting in developing, recommending, and implementing methods to maximize client benefits by reducing their current and future taxes.
- Applying tax knowledge and industry knowledge to recommend solutions that maximize client benefits while managing risk.
- Participating in organizing and conducting external CPE training sessions in the area of specialization.
- Supervising associates and senior associates on projects, reviewing their work, and providing feedback.
- Acting as a career advisor and managing the workload of associates and senior associates.
- Providing verbal and written performance feedback to team members.
Education and Experience Information:
- A Bachelor’s degree is required, with a preference for majors in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics.
- A Master’s degree in Accountancy or Taxation is preferred.
- A minimum of five years of relevant tax experience and/or experience in public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services is required.
- Specialized partnership experience is mandatory.
- Prior supervisory experience is preferred.
- Experience in private equity at both fund and portfolio company levels is preferred.
License/Certifications:
- A CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a . jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA) designation is preferred.
- Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role is preferred.
Software:
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.
- Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software is preferred.
