Job Responsibilities

As an Insurance Defense Attorney at the company, you will be responsible for representing the company and its policyholders in moderately complex civil litigation matters. These cases typically involve claims for monetary damages or compensation for personal injuries or property damage of moderate value. Your primary responsibilities will include:

- Managing the entire legal process from investigation and discovery through trial preparation and court proceedings. This includes representing clients in depositions, site inspections, court hearings, trials, and negotiating settlements as necessary.
- Developing appropriate legal strategies for all stages of litigation by researching all applicable laws and findings. You will share these strategies with claims representatives and insured clients.
- Establishing and maintaining good relationships with claims representatives and insured clients, as well as occasionally conducting training sessions for Legal, Claims, or other departments.
- Developing and rendering clear, unambiguous legal opinions and strategies, and drafting legal documents including pleadings and motions.
- Providing guidance and direction to junior attorneys, paralegals, or law clerks, and collaborating with the Home Office Legal team.

Education and Experience Information

Education

- A Juris Doctor (JD) degree is required.

Experience

- Membership in the California Bar is required.
- Special licenses to practice before boards or federal courts are preferred.
- A minimum of three years of successful experience in conducting discovery, depositions, oral arguments, mediations, arbitrations, hearings, and trials is required.
- Experience representing insurance companies is necessary.

Salary Information

- Minimum Salary: USD $86, per year.
- Maximum Salary: USD $147, per year.
- Typical Starting Salary: $100,000 - $115,000.
- Flexible Time Off Annual Accrual: 20 days.

The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at the company have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
