Job Title: Senior Staff Attorney, Democracy: Voting Rights Litigation Team

Job Responsibilities:
The Senior Staff Attorney will play a pivotal role in litigating cases in state and federal courts, specifically across the organization’s five focus states in the Deep South. The responsibilities include:

- Collaborating with private attorneys and conducting extensive research and factual investigations.
- Writing motions, briefs, and other court filings, conducting discovery, making court appearances, and presenting oral arguments.
- Leading advocacy and litigation efforts, including legal research, factual investigations, and drafting memoranda and complaints.
- Identifying and developing new cases and litigation strategies to advance voting rights by working with community groups, coalitions, and individuals.
- Mentoring and training legal staff and interns as needed.
- Participating in relevant task forces and coalitions.
- Collaborating extensively across various departments within the organization to ensure effective implementation of impact area goals.
- Representing the Democracy - Voting Rights Litigation Team (DVR) on relevant task forces and coalitions.
- Working closely with the organization’s Policy Department and Communications Department to advance the organization’s policy objectives.
- Engaging in public speaking and articulating the organization’s policies and programs to the public and the media on voting rights issues.
- Performing other duties as required or assigned that are reasonably within the scope of the job classification.

Education and Experience Information:
The position requires a . degree from an ABA-accredited law school and membership in good standing of at least one state bar in the United States, preferably in Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, or Washington, . Candidates must have at least six years of federal court civil litigation or comparable experience post law school.

Salary Information:
This is an exempt role with a minimum starting salary of $73, annually, based on legal experience post law school. The salary structure is as follows:

- Staff Attorney I (1-3 years out of law school): $73,
- Staff Attorney II (4-5 years out of law school): $84,
- Senior Staff Attorney I (6 & 7 years out of law school): $97,
- Senior Staff Attorney II (8 & 9 years out of law school): $112,
- Senior Staff Attorney III (10 & 11 years out of law school): $129,
- Senior Staff Attorney IV (12+ years out of law school): $148,

The Senior Staff Attorney will report to a Senior Supervising Attorney, Democracy: Voting Rights. The role offers options for local remote work, requiring attendance at work-related activities at the organization’s offices or within the states in which the organization operates, and telework, requiring office presence at least three days per week with the option to work two days from an alternative location. This position is represented by the Washington-Baltimore News Guild and is performed under general office conditions without strenuous physical demands or dangerous conditions.
