Head of Construction Defect Claims

Job Responsibilities

The Head of Construction Defect Claims at Company is responsible for leading a large team handling all aspects of construction defect claims, demonstrating a thorough understanding of the business and best-in-class claims handling. Key responsibilities include:

- Developing and managing the performance of the Construction Defect (CD) Claim teams to ensure quality, accuracy, and timely resolution of complex liability claims.
- Continuously developing talent by creating opportunities for direct reports to grow and strengthen new skills.
- Monitoring team performance, analyzing problematic trends, and identifying root causes. Escalating issues or recommending solutions to operational leadership.
- Advocating for process efficiencies to continuously improve work completion.
- Promoting a highly effective and engaged employee culture by selecting top talent, providing continuous coaching, recognizing employees, and holding others accountable for team development.
- Building an understanding of the customer experience to meet and exceed stakeholders’ expectations.
- Identifying changes in claim best practices and workflows to drive high-quality outcomes and developing training solutions to embed and sustain those practices.
- Identifying technological changes to support the execution of best practices and workflows, and collaborating with IT counterparts in the design, build, and testing of those changes.
- Utilizing data and analytics to make informed decisions and drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborating with business partners internally and externally to ensure profitable growth.
- Developing coverage acumen and proactively ensuring the team manages litigation effectively.

Education and Experience Information

The ideal candidate for the Head of Construction Defect Claims should possess the following qualifications:

- Significant experience in claims leadership roles within the insurance industry, with material experience in Construction Defect claim management.
- Multi-jurisdictional expertise.
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is required.
- An advanced degree, such as a Juris Doctor (.), is preferred.
- Proven ability to manage a diverse group of claims teams located in multiple locations.
- Experience in directly managing and guiding a team of Managers responsible for overseeing all aspects of claims.
- Regular participation in claims roundtable discussions focusing on coverage, liability, and assessment of damages.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present to senior leadership.
- Leadership skills, including the ability to plan, organize, delegate, and develop direct reports.
- Ability to persuade and influence people through superior written and oral communications, with a capacity to explain things clearly, challenge ideas effectively, and argue in favor of one's point of view.
- Possession of emotional intelligence and self-awareness.
- A willingness to embrace changes, invite feedback related to performance, and deal constructively with criticism.
