Job Title: Kinship Care / Family Law Attorney (Statewide)

Job Responsibilities:
The Kinship Care / Family Law Attorney will be responsible for providing legal representation and advocacy for relative caregivers in various family law matters, including custody, guardianship, adoption, and benefits. The attorney will offer counsel to family violence survivors through the Family Law Hotline, covering a wide range of legal options such as divorce, custody, visitation, child support, paternity-defense, legitimation, name changes, protective orders, and financial benefits. Additionally, the attorney will handle civil legal representation for survivors of family violence in state, federal, and administrative forums, as directed by the supervisor or Piedmont Managing attorney.

The role involves referring clients to immigration assistance resources, such as T-Visas, U-Visas, and VAWA applications, in collaboration with partners like the Georgian Asylum and Immigration Network. The attorney will also connect clients with holistic services including safety planning, shelter, law enforcement assistance, victim assistance, counseling, benefits, and other community services to support safety and economic security.

The attorney will maintain records and data on the organization's case management system for research, development, and project reporting purposes. They will assist in recruiting and supporting pro bono attorneys to help with survivors' legal needs and facilitate presentations to bar associations, attorneys, and community partners to promote participation in holistic civil legal services for survivors. Attendance at statewide and national meetings and conferences is required as budget and grant conditions permit.

The attorney will support the application of technology in delivering legal services and propose policy recommendations to expand access to civil legal services for survivors. They will provide multicultural outreach to inform survivors about the legal services available throughout Georgia and support grant applications related to the organization's family law grants, including administrative assistance, budget management, grant reporting, and staff supervision as needed.

Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must be graduates of an accredited law school and current members of the Georgia Bar. Experience in working with individuals with low incomes and a commitment to social justice is essential. The role requires willingness and ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Candidates should be computer literate, familiar with using email, Excel, Word, SharePoint, LegalServer, and other programs. Reliable transportation and a valid Georgia driver's license are necessary, as travel is a component of the position. Proficiency in Spanish is highly valued. A demonstrated interest or experience in poverty law issues and commitment to social justice is required, along with the ability to work with diverse populations and perspectives. Excellent oral advocacy, research, and writing skills are crucial, as is attention to detail and self-motivation. Candidates must be creative and team players and hold membership in the Georgia Bar.

Salary Information:
The salary for this position is $65,000+, dependent on experience. The organization offers generous fringe benefits, including paid holidays, paid time off, parental leave, a birthday holiday, health, life, and long-term and short-term disability insurance. Educational loan reimbursement is available up to $600 per month, after a $65 per month deductible. The organization provides a 403B plan with a 3% match, covers Georgia Bar dues, and CLE expenses. A hybrid work schedule is offered, allowing staff to work remotely for two days a week, subject to management approval and a probationary employment period.
