Job Title: Assistant Attorney General 1-6 (Monroe)

Job Responsibilities:
The Assistant Attorney General in the Litigation Division is tasked with defending the State of Louisiana, its agencies, and employees in tort claims that seek monetary damages. These areas include Civil Rights, General Liability, Medical Malpractice, Road Hazard, Transportation, and Workers' Compensation. The specific responsibilities include:

- Serving as the primary defense counsel in all assigned cases, managing all phases of litigation from the case's inception through final appeal.
- Conducting legal research and drafting pleadings, correspondence, and other necessary documents.
- Identifying and securing expert witnesses and other necessary testimony.
- Communicating effectively and in a timely manner with supervisors and clients regarding case developments.
- Performing administrative functions such as preparing and submitting accurate reports of daily and monthly activities, case assessments, settlement authority requests, and documentation related to travel and expenses.
- Complying with requirements set by the Insurance Administration Trust (IAT) with the Office of Risk Management (ORM) and Louisiana State University (LSU).
- Being punctual and maintaining attendance at all relevant matters related to case defense, maintaining normal work hours, and working additional hours as necessary to accomplish tasks.

Education and Experience Information:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must possess a license to practice law in the State of Louisiana.
- Must be in good standing with the Louisiana Bar Association.
- Ability to travel, including overnight, primarily for statewide court appearances and potentially for continuing education and conferences.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to handle litigation in both federal and state courts.
- Experience in motions practice and presenting oral arguments in state courts.
- Knowledge of collections laws, garnishments, as well as state and federal court practices and procedures.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including listening and editing.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to foster teamwork, promote a positive work environment, and possess good judgment.

Salary Information:
The salary range for this position is $75, to $105, annually. The salary offered will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.

Additional Information:
This position is unclassified and is part of a Career Progression Group. The vacancy may be filled at any level from Assistant Attorney General 1 to 6, depending on the selected applicant's experience. Offers of employment are contingent upon satisfactory background checks, drug testing, and reference verifications.
