Job Title: Head of Construction Defect Claims
Job Responsibilities:
- The Head of Construction Defect Claims is responsible for leading a large team that handles all aspects of construction defect claims. This includes ensuring the quality, accuracy, and timely resolution of liability claims of the highest complexity and/or severity.
- The role involves continuously developing talent by creating opportunities for direct reports to grow and strengthen new skills. It requires monitoring the performance of the team, analyzing problematic trends to identify root causes, and escalating issues or recommending solutions to operational leadership.
- The candidate must advocate for a culture committed to identifying process efficiencies to continuously improve how work is completed. They should demonstrate a passion and vision towards a highly effective and engaged employee culture by selecting top talent, delivering continuous coaching, recognizing employees to reinforce behaviors that ensure service excellence, and holding others accountable for the development of their teams.
- The role also requires advocating for claims customer service excellence by building an understanding of the customer experience that meets and exceeds stakeholders’ expectations.
- The candidate will need to identify changes in claim best practices and workflows to drive high-quality outcomes and develop training solutions to embed and sustain those practices in the organization.
- Identifying changes in technology to support the execution of those practices and workflows, and collaborating with IT counterparts in the design, build, and test of those changes is also part of the responsibilities.
- The role utilizes data and analytics to make informed decisions and drive continuous improvement.
- Collaboration with business partners internally and externally to ensure profitable growth is essential.
- The candidate must develop coverage acumen and proactively ensure the team manages litigation.
Education and Experience Information:
- Significant experience in claims leadership roles within the insurance industry, with material experience in Construction Defect claim management, is required.
- Multi-jurisdictional expertise is necessary.
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience is required.
- An advanced degree, including Juris Doctor (.), is preferred.
- The ability to manage a diverse group of claims teams located in multiple locations is essential.
- The candidate must directly manage and guide a team of Managers responsible for overseeing the handling of all aspects of claims.
- Regular participation in claims roundtable discussions focusing on claims issues surrounding coverage, liability, and assessment of damages is expected.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present to senior leadership are required.
- Leadership skills, including the ability to plan, organize, delegate, and develop direct reports, are necessary.
- The candidate should possess emotional intelligence and self-awareness.
- The ability to persuade and influence people through superior written and oral communications, explaining things clearly, challenging ideas effectively, and arguing in favor of their own point of view is important.
- The candidate must embrace changes, invite feedback related to performance, and deal constructively with criticism.
