Eviction Prevention Attorney

Job Responsibilities:
The Eviction Prevention Attorney at the organization is dedicated to providing high-quality, low-barrier legal services to tenants with low incomes who are at risk of eviction and potential homelessness. The key responsibilities include:

- Direct legal advocacy for low-income tenant households facing eviction.
- Providing legal advice, brief legal assistance, negotiations, mediation, and full legal representation.
- Assisting tenants with applications for rental assistance or other resources through local community action agencies, municipalities, and state agencies.
- Engaging in outreach to educate tenants, advocates, and providers on issues and resources that promote housing stability.
- Handling a high-volume practice, including occasional coverage for eviction cases in other areas of Maine as needed.
- Frequent travel for work activities, including training, client meetings outside the office, and visits to other courts and partner agencies.
- Collaborating closely with the statewide Housing Practice Group.
- Attending trainings, meetings, or outreach activities, which may require evening or weekend time.

Education and Experience Information:
- The candidate must be admitted to the practice of law in Maine or be eligible for licensure with the Maine Bar and able to practice under MRCP 11 (c) while working at the organization.
- Previous litigation experience is strongly preferred.
- The applicant must reside in, or be willing to relocate to, the state of Maine.

Salary Information:
The salary range for attorneys and other exempt staff at the organization is currently $69,490 - $106,490, depending on experience.
