Job Responsibilities:
The internship program in the congressional office is crafted to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the core functions of a congressional office. Interns will have the opportunity to:
- Respond to constituent inquiries, providing assistance and information as needed.
- Conduct research on legislation, thereby gaining insights into the legislative framework and processes.
- Develop public policy by engaging in discussions and drafting proposals.
- Observe the legislative process directly, including attending committee meetings, hearings, and a variety of lecture series, to gain firsthand exposure to how legislative decisions are made.
Education and Experience Information:
To qualify for the internship, applicants must meet the following educational and experience criteria:
- Must be enrolled in college with a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of .
- Should possess excellent writing and computer skills to handle various tasks and assignments effectively.
- While preference is given to residents of California’s 40th Congressional District, applications from students outside the district will also be considered.
- All interns are responsible for their own expenses, including transportation and lodging costs.
The internship program is offered in both the Washington . office and the District Office in California’s 40th Congressional District. Internships are available for the spring, summer, and fall terms. The application deadline for Summer 2025 internships in the District offices is April 11, 2025.
Salary Information:
Interns are eligible to receive a monthly stipend to assist with expenses during their internship period. However, they are expected to cover their own transportation and lodging costs.
