Job Overview:

The role involves active engagement in civil litigation involving local governments, school boards, and private employers. Duties:

• Advocate on behalf of municipal bodies such as counties, cities, towns, and school boards in a variety of litigation matters

• Defend public and private employers against claims involving workplace disputes, contract disagreements, and civil rights allegations

• Handle high-stakes matters including but not limited to:

  • Discrimination and employment practices

  • Alleged misconduct involving public institutions

  • Civil rights violations including excessive force claims

  • Policy challenges concerning education and governance

• Participate actively in both state and federal court proceedings

• Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, and manage discovery

• Collaborate with a team of litigators throughout the lifecycle of a case

• Engage directly with clients and witnesses, including government officials and administrators

Requirements:

• Substantive litigation experience, preferably with public sector clients or employment law focus

• Strong interest in complex civil litigation and public entity representation

• Confidence in handling contentious and sensitive subject matter

• Willingness to appear frequently in court

Education:

• Juris Doctor (.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• Active and good-standing membership with the Virginia State Bar

Skills:

• Excellent oral and written advocacy

• Sound judgment and discretion in handling politically sensitive matters

• Strong interpersonal and team collaboration skills

• Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced litigation environment
