Do you have a passion for justice and a desire to represent clients in court? The Colorado Office of the State Public Defender (OSPD) offers an exciting opportunity for 2L and 3L law students to serve our clients directly as certified interns. This demanding internship is certified by the Colorado Supreme Court and allows students to practice in court as if they were licensed attorneys.
Gain Hands-On Experience:
As a certified intern, you will have the opportunity to work under the supervision of a licensed public defender and handle misdemeanor, traffic, or juvenile delinquency cases. This hands-on experience will provide you with intensive courtroom advocacy skills and prepare you for a successful career in law.
Paid Positions Available:
The OSPD offers 24 paid positions each summer for certified interns, as well as additional unpaid spots. Our appellate division also offers paid summer internships. This is a great opportunity to gain valuable experience while also receiving compensation for your work.
Eligibility Requirements:
To be eligible for a summer internship, you must have completed your second year of law school and have at least 60 credit hours from an accredited law school. You must also be eligible for certification under Colorado's student practice rule. If you meet these requirements, submit a resume and cover letter to apply for a position.
Flexible Office Assignments:
Flexibility in office assignment is an important factor in being selected for a paid position. When applying, please include a list of trial offices where you are willing to be assigned next summer. This includes availability to be assigned outside of the Denver metro area, as this is a key factor in selection for a paid position.
