Overview:

- The Maryland Attorney General's Office has a unit of five attorneys assigned to represent the Maryland State Police (MSP).
- The unit defends the agency and its employees in civil actions and provides advice to various units and divisions within MSP.
- The Office of the Attorney General sponsors a volunteer Law Clerk program that provides law students with an opportunity to serve the citizens of Maryland in a wide range of legal fields.
- Law clerks have opportunities to perform legal research and writing, participate in witness and client interviews, and assist with litigation.
- The Office of the Attorney General is the largest and finest law firm in the State, with a distinguished history of successfully addressing complex legal issues.
- The Law Clerk Program gives participants a chance to make a difference in communities all across the State.

Responsibilities:

- Perform legal research and writing
- Participate in witness and client interviews
- Assist with litigation of claims filed with Maryland's trial, administrative, and appellate courts
- Provide advice to select state agencies on personnel matters, proposed legislation, application of statutes and regulations, subpoenas, Public Information Act requests, and contracts and agreements

Qualifications:

- Excellent legal research and writing abilities
- Strong communication and team skills
- Great work ethic and good attitude
- Law students in their 1L, 2L, or 3L year with a GPA of ________ or higher
- Available to work no less than 15-20 hours per week
