Associate Staff Counsel

Job Responsibilities:
The Associate Staff Counsel at the company is tasked with representing the company and its policyholders in civil litigation and workers' compensation matters that involve moderately complex legal issues. Key responsibilities include:

- Litigation Execution: The Associate Staff Counsel will manage all phases of litigation, such as discovery, hearings, trials, mediations, and drafting legal documents like pleadings and motions. They will provide support to Senior Trial Counsel and Senior Litigation Counsel throughout the case handling process, from preparation to trial management and assistance.
- Client Advisory and Relationship Management: The role requires providing clear and strategic legal opinions and advice to Claims Representatives and insured clients. Maintaining strong client relationships through transparent and effective communication is essential.
- Technology Utilization: The Associate Staff Counsel is expected to utilize e-discovery and case management technologies to streamline legal processes, improve efficiency, and reduce operational costs. They should demonstrate effective coordination with remote team members and proficiency in remote work environments.
- Risk Evaluation and Case Resolution Facilitation: The role involves identifying and evaluating legal risks, collaborating on strategies to mitigate these risks, and working closely with clients and senior counsel to facilitate effective resolutions.
- Documentation Accuracy and Compliance: Ensuring that all legal documents, pleadings, and motions are meticulously prepared, accurate, and compliant with applicable standards and client expectations is a critical responsibility.
- Timely Client Communication: The Associate Staff Counsel must provide clear, consistent, and timely updates and recommendations to insured clients and claims professionals to maintain alignment with case objectives.
- Contribution to Organizational Improvement: Participation in initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency, effectiveness, and best practices within the Staff Legal and Global Legal & Compliance organizations is encouraged.
- Ethical Compliance Adherence: Upholding the highest standards of legal ethics and compliance is mandatory, following legal regulations and licensing requirements, and promoting a culture of integrity within the legal team.

Education and Experience Information:
Candidates for the Associate Staff Counsel position must meet the following qualifications:

- Possess a Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the California State Bar and be in good standing is required; special licenses to practice before particular boards or federal courts may be necessary.
- General knowledge of personal injury law is expected.
- Proficiency in e-discovery, case management systems, and basic legal analysis tools is essential.
- Strong analytical, research, and legal writing skills are required.
- Basic knowledge of negotiation techniques, including preparation, active listening, and problem-solving, is necessary.
- Demonstrated ability to manage cases from start to finish under supervision is important.
- Effective communication and persuasion skills, both written and oral, are required.
- Ability to collaborate with clients, claims professionals, and senior attorneys is essential.
- Organizational and process-oriented with strong time management skills is necessary.

Salary Information:
The salary for the Associate Staff Counsel position is outlined as follows:

- Minimum Salary: USD $100, per year
- Maximum Salary: USD $161, per year

The salary range is determined by various factors, including skills, experience, education, certifications, and location.
