Job Title: Law Student Intern

Job Responsibilities:
- Interns will work alongside lawyers and other professionals to assist low-income residents with their legal needs.
- Responsibilities may vary based on current needs and capacities of the organization.
- Interns can choose to work either in the immigration practice, domestic violence practice, or both.
- Potential projects include:
- Drafting legal memos and conducting legal research.
- Drafting pleadings and outlining briefs for asylum cases.
- Preparing work permit applications and providing direct client representation.
- Creating pro se materials for clients and drafting country conditions reports for asylum applications.
- Developing training materials for volunteer attorneys representing U visa, SIJS, or VAWA clients.
- Gathering client information in a legal clinic setting.
- Attending hearings related to custody, divorce, or civil protection orders.
- Assisting in trial preparation, including drafting motions and pleadings and gathering evidence.

Education and Experience Information:
- The position is open to law school students or recent law school graduates.
- Spanish proficiency is highly preferred, though not required.

Salary Information:
- The internship offers a stipend of $500, paid in two installments of $250 during the first and last week of the internship.

Additional Information:
- The internship requires a commitment of 15-20 hours per week, with the option for a full-time commitment of 40 hours per week.
- Interns are required to be in the office at least once a week, with opportunities to attend in-person legal clinics.
- Interns will participate in staff-wide professional development training, family law and immigration practice team meetings, and observe client meetings and/or trials.
- The organization provides assistance in obtaining academic credit if the necessary documentation is provided.
