Job Title: 2026 2L Summer Associate
Job Responsibilities:
The Summer Associate Program at the law firm is a foundational step for many aspiring attorneys, serving as the primary source of new associates for the firm over the years. It is crafted to offer a stimulating and diverse educational experience tailored for exceptional law students across the country. Summer Associates are entrusted with significant projects, closely mirroring the tasks assigned to new associates, and work under the guidance of an assigning attorney. This hands-on approach is designed to provide substantial exposure to practical legal work.
A critical component of the program is the exposure to both prosecution and litigation aspects of intellectual property law. The firm places a strong emphasis on encouraging Summer Associates to engage deeply with both areas throughout the duration of the summer program. Evaluations of performance and progress are conducted mid-summer and at the end of the summer to provide feedback and foster growth.
The law firm also offers a weekly In-House Training Program aimed at providing exposure to a wide array of practice areas, ensuring a well-rounded experience. Summer Associates are invited to participate in monthly practice group meetings and attorney training seminars, further enhancing their understanding and skills in various legal domains.
Beyond the academic and professional development opportunities, the program includes a variety of social events, ranging from large formal gatherings to small informal get-togethers. These events are integral to the program, as they help in building professional relationships and fostering long-lasting friendships among peers and mentors.
Education and Experience Information:
The law firm is seeking second-year law students (2Ls) who possess degrees in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, life sciences, or related fields. While an advanced degree and industry experience are preferred, they are not mandatory. A scientific or technical background is not required for those interested in the litigation practice. However, candidates who rank in the top 25% of their undergraduate and law school classes are preferred. Participation in law review or moot court is considered a plus.
Salary Information:
Summer Associates at the law firm will be compensated at a rate of $3,500 per week. The program will be conducted in-person at any of the law firm's offices located in Minneapolis, MN; Denver, CO; Atlanta, GA; Knoxville, TN; New York, NY; and Alexandria, VA.
To be considered for the program, candidates are required to submit a resume, cover letter, undergraduate and law school transcripts, and a writing sample.
