Job Overview:
A prominent law firm based in Hampton, VA is seeking a seasoned Litigation Attorney to manage personal injury cases through all phases of litigation. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in trial advocacy, case valuation, and legal strategy within the domain of personal injury, including wrongful death and medical malpractice. The role demands a proactive litigator who thrives in a dynamic environment, is supported by a team of legal professionals, and can independently handle a caseload from intake through resolution.

Duties:

  • Advocate for plaintiffs in personal injury claims from initial filing to final resolution

  • Oversee and manage a full docket of litigation matters, including pre-litigation when necessary

  • Evaluate assigned cases promptly for severity, viability, and strategy within 30 days of intake

  • Conduct regular case file reviews to ensure legal benchmarks and deadlines are met

  • Draft, revise, and file motions, complaints, responses, discovery documents, and demand packages

  • Coordinate communication with clients, medical professionals, witnesses, and insurers

  • Participate in negotiations and secure favorable settlements

  • Prepare for and represent clients at mediations, depositions, hearings, and trials in both state and federal courts

  • Review liens and outstanding obligations before client disbursement

  • Ensure timely responses to client and team communications within 48 hours

  • Collaborate with litigation support staff while exercising independent judgment

  • Handle additional responsibilities as delegated

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated success in personal injury litigation

  • Significant trial experience with civil litigation matters such as wrongful death or medical malpractice

  • Proficiency in legal drafting, oral advocacy, and case management

  • Familiarity with medical records, terminology, and billing practices

  • Able to balance independent decision-making with team consultation

  • Strong ethical foundation and discretion in handling sensitive client matters

Education:

  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

Certifications:

  • Active and in good standing with the Virginia State Bar

  • Licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia

Skills:

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities

  • Analytical reasoning and problem-solving aptitude

  • Client-focused with strong interpersonal skills

  • Competence in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and legal practice software

  • Organizational capabilities for managing multiple active litigation files

  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to navigate complex settlement discussions
